ITS OVER
“I cant take this any longer,”Jane
paused,”He is taking this issues too far. This is too much for me to
handle. Am leaving, this time for good,”She said to Mary.
Despondence set in.
Mary gave her a tranquil gaze,as she
din't know which words to use this time round as she had always warned
Jane against dating Matthew who always hurt her knowingly and
unknowingly. She and few of her friends always have been there to
consult Jane during her weak moments but never has she seen Jane in
such state hitherto. Her friends had advised her to leave him but she
seemed disinclined to take this action, saying perhaps Mathew will
change for the best this time. They always told her,
“compeer, remember time waits for no man and the earlier you leave
the better you will get another guy,who will treat you like a lady is
supposed to be treated.”
You know women always have a reason/excuse why
a guy is not treating them better with the hope that he will change
over a new leaf.
“Lemmie give him more time,I bet work
is getting on his nerves and you know men can't multitask. He will
soon play along.'' Jane always told her buddies who sneered and let
her live in denial. Mary never ever agreed with her opinion. She told jane in black and white the relationship was doomed to fail and Mathew was just playing with her and wasting her precious time.
“Life is too short to spend it with
someone who makes your days difficult, darling.” Mary always told
Jane. Silence always pursue after this statement.Jane would say
inwardly, time will tell buddy and wondered why Mary prophesied doom
the first time she met Matthew. Could she be in love with him too?
Mary on the other hand pitied her friend as she strongly believed
that if someone loved you they ought to treat you better, right and
never whine about it to friends giving excuses as to why he is
behaving badly.
Mary vividly recalls Jane started
complaining about Mathew's peculiar behavior two months in the
relationship. This to her was absurd,as Mathew has not been there for
Jane during her worst emotional, spiritually and physically moments.
Mary has.
Jane had met Mathew in one of their
products launch which they normally hold twice or thrice an year at a
5 star hotel in Nairobi. They had invited most of their clients and
few organizations. Jane being the PR was ensuring all the invited
guests were comfortable and well attended to. In the process of meets
and greets, she laid eyes on this young man probably in his early
30s,who was making his way in the hall with a group of 5 other young
men . The air filled with a sweet, musky scent as they entered . A
delightful combination of woodsy aftershave with a hint of clean
perspiration. It was intoxicating and Jane found herself inhaling
deeply every chance She could as she led them to their table. She mostly was dazed by the scent of of the young man she laid eyes on. His
smell reminded her of a delicate forest; right after a downpour. She
was mesmerized. Before leaving the table she asked the men their
names but the only name she mastered was Mathew's the guy who made
her heart skip a bit.
Mathew was also stunned by Jane's
beauty and grace, as she had a great smile, cute face and she
possessed bilateral symmetry. He could not help but stare at her as
she ushered guest in. Their eyes met
from time to time and they both looked
away shyly. Mathew has never seen such beauty, only Heavenly language
can describe her, she is out of this world. He couldn’t wait for
mingle time after speeches to approach this lady whose beautification
had stupefied him.
The mingle time seemed ages to Mathew
but he is a stout believer of patience pays, and he waited. The
moment came,he went straight to where Jane was standing as she was
giving some product knowledge to some clients. Mathew fixed himself
there as he listened carefully Jane explained the products.
“Oh my,she is not only beautiful but
also witty, what a combination? The rare species the world can have.”
Mathew thought almost aloud.
After Jane had finished with the
clients, Mathew approached her by complementing how beautiful donned
she was then conversation ensued. They exchanged pleasantry and mind
numbing chit chat. Jane fell in love with Mathew after few minutes of
witty conversation. She loved his clever sense of humor. He made her
laugh like she has never laughed before .Mathew liked her as she was brilliant, courageous and easy to converse with. Intellectual they
say. Her presence hypnotized him.
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. They dated.
Few months into the relationship,Mathew
revealed his true colors. One woman could not satisfy his ego,he
needed more missus for the Ego. He stopped calling Jane as frequent
as he used to,never responded the a zillion messages she sent him. He was
completely another person whom Jane never knew. From the
loving, caring guy he transformed to a beast and careless lad. She had tried severally to leave him but he convinced her
otherwise giving dull-witted excuses claiming he will change.
“Jane,ni mashetani tu niombe.”(Its
the devil, pray for us)He usually said.
Mary had an antagonist attitude toward
Mathew's lame excuses hence Jane became a cheap and docile
girlfriend.
Efforts to convince Jane out of the
relationship seemed futile. In Mary’s perturbation she used to call
Jane from time to time to check how her sweet friend who was
losing it is coping with life, but in denial Jane would say all is well.Mary called Jane as she normally did but this
time round ,dubiety befell Mary as Jane's tone sold her as it had
agony in it. Mary decided to pay her a visit, actually a sleep over to catch up with Jane's life and love life to be precise.
On arriving at Jane's place mid morning
hours, she found Jane had imbibed too many pitchers of beer.
“Oh no buddy!'Its not come to this
doll?”Mary said
“life! My love,Life!”Jane said,her
voice trembling with outrage.”I cant take this anymore, doll”
Mary in posthaste cleared the table and
took the glass of beer from Jane's hand and poured it in the sink.
Jane penances herself for loving Mathew by taking
liquor in the wee hours of the morning.
“Hun talk to me,”Mary
posed,”remember that you should always have resilience in the face
of diversity.”
Jane bitterly outlined all what her
alleged love of her life had done to her in past few months. How he
had lured her into giving him almost all her savings which he spent
taking other ladies out.
"insanity, right? " Mary cogitated as she allowed Jane to pour out her bottled anger.
She poured the intense disappointments, humiliation, frustration she had endured dating Mathew and how he had managed to convinced her back.
"Stupidy,I curse my doltishness."
“you really stepped out of your boundaries doll,”

“you really stepped out of your boundaries doll,”
“ya hun, I over compromised.” Jane
said
Jane was in a vindictive state of mind
, laden with grief and in exquisite pain of the heart. She had been
enthralled in deep love for Mathew that she hardly noticed he was
playing with her emotions. Mary was gleeful for her pal as Jane's
infuriate tend to veer into break up this time round. It was the
threshold of a new life without Mathew
